DescriptionJoin us for a hands-on conservation effort to protect seabird habitat on Aiktak Island! Volunteers will assist in removing .25 acre invasive grass infestation around a small field cabin to help maintain native vegetation and support habitat restoration. Work will involve hand-pulling invasive grass, bagging and disposing of removed vegetation, and establishing monitoring for regrowth. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are comfortable working outdoors in variable weather conditions and on uneven terrain, travelling in potentially rough sea, getting in and out of a zodiac on the beach, and have the ability to carry 25+ lbs. The trip involves travelling on the FWS R/V Tiglax from Adak Island to Aiktak Island, and then returning to port in Homer, AK.
