| Project Name | Galbraith Lake Bunkhouse Maintenance |
| Project Number | 423 |

| Dates | July 17-21, 2023 |
| Duration | 2 - 3 days |
| Number of Volunteers Needed | 1 FILLED |
| Description | The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge maintains a bunkhouse at Galbraith Lake on the north slope of the Brooks Range along the Dalton Highway and the Alaska pipeline. The scenery is impressive. Hiking opportunities are everywhere.
Transportation from Fairbanks and on-site housing will be provided by USFWS.
The refuge needs a maintenance volunteer to help for 2 to 3 days with repairs and furniture assembly at the bunkhouse. The volunteer must have knowledge of basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc) and some understanding of furniture assembly. It would be desirable but not required for the volunteer to give a presentation at the nearby Arctic Interagency Visitor Center at Coldfoot on Friends or some other topic agreed upon with Visitor Center staff. The audience would be small - perhaps 10 to 20.
The refuge will supply housing at the bunkhouse. More details are coming as to transportation from Fairbanks and food.
You must be a Friends member and must submit a Volunteer Application. Please address in your application your experience and skills in handyman type work and if you would be comfortable public speaking if others helped you prepare a program. You must take the Service\'s Defensive Driving course online. If you already have done that please note in your application. |
| Skills Needed | Experience and skills in handyman type work. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Experience in furniture assembly is a bonus. Ability to present a program to a small audience at the Coldfoot Visitor Center is desirable but not required. |
