| Description | Teach Anchorage 5th graders at a 3 day residential camp at the Begich Boggs Visitor Center at Portage. This is a partnered project between the Fish & Wildlife Service(FWS), the Forest Service and others. It is part of the FWS Urban Initiative to get city kids outside. You could lead field studies with already prepared materials or lead recreation time - games, etc. An instructor manual will be provided ahead of time.
Housing and food is provided in the Forest Service bunkhouse at Portage. Volunteers need to arrive by 9 am on a Tuesday and can expect to be finished by 4 pm on Thursday. This includes set up and take down time as the students arrive at 11 am on Tuesday and depart by 1 pm Thursday.
You do not need to be a Friends member for this project. You apply directly
on-line to the Kenai Mountains-Turnagin Arm National Heritage Area that is coordinating the project. However, you need to contact them first to find out available dates. sarahschuh@kmtacorridor.org |
