| Description | Alaska\'s largest wildlife festival brings you birds, boats, art, experts and all the charm of Homer. Friends co-sponsors the Festival with the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. It is our biggest project. We will need volunteers for two kinds of work: 1) working the Friends Outreach table in Islands & Ocean Visitor Center explaining Friends and refuges and recruiting new members; and 2) helping with Festival events including working shorebird viewing stations (need to know birds); assisting on a bird walk (must carry and set up scopes), door monitors for talks, help with junior birder and teen birder events, help at registration and more. Friends also sponsor the ever popular Birder\'s Coffee, Sunday morning at 9 am. Please fill out a volunteer application if you can take a shift at the Outreach Table any of the Festival days or help with the Birder\'s Coffee. To sign up to help the refuge with Festival events you can do so on-line here. This sign up genius program is easy to use and shows you all the events and tasks that need help.
Festival registration opens March 22 at noon and some events and boat trips sell out immediately. So make your plans now to come to the Festival and give back by taking some volunteer shifts.
