DescriptionCANCELLED FOR 2019 Selawik NWR needs two fit, field-ready volunteers with good birding skills to help us conduct the Alaska Landbird Monitoring Survey (ALMS) on our refuge in June 2019. The refuge has funds to conduct the field work and Friends will cover R/T travel to Kotzebue from Anchorage. Volunteers should be: 1) in good physical shape. Our ALMS sites are extremely remote and require boating, bushwhacking and tundra tromping to access. 2) skilled birders able to independently conduct ALMS surveys. Our refuge does not have any avian or wildlife biologists on staff. More about the ALMS survey protocols and program here (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/asc/science/alaska-landbird-monitoring-survey) 3) trained in FWS bear safety/firearms course and able to carry required deterrents in the field 4) boating experience helpful but not required.
