DescriptionAlaska\'s largest wildlife viewing festival is run by the US Fish & Wildlife Service and the Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges and staffed by VOLUNTEERS! Between 30 and 40 individual volunteers help with various tasks such as using optics, managing scopes, and finding birds at a viewing station, counting attendees or taking tickets at a lecture or workshop, carrying scopes for a bird walk, or talking to people about refuges and our public lands at a Friends Outreach table. Many events are held at Islands & Ocean Visitor Center or at various birding venues around Homer. Your task might be for 1 to 3 hours and you will receive a complementary ticket to a keynote address or a 2019 festival poster for serving 5 hours or at 2 events. NO APPLICATION IS NECESSARY! Skills NeededAbility to work with people of all ages and assist with using spotting scopes and bird ID books is desired. A basic knowledge of local shorebirds and songbirds is helpful, but not mandatory.
