DescriptionCamp Goonzhii, meaning wisdom and knowledge in Gwichin, has been held in Arctic Village by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service since 2003. The three-day camp aims to expose students to both old and new forms of knowledge, botany, fish identification, wonders of the northern lights, bird identification, as well as traditional subsistence and language skills. 2017\\\\\\\'s camp involved partners from University of Alaska Fairbanks, Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges, Student Conservation Association, and Toolik Field Station. We seek one Friends volunteer to act as an instructor to K-12 students. There may also be a community potlatch to facilitate.
Skills NeededTeaching experience required. See above description. Ability to adjust to changing weather and/or subsistence requirements which may dictate last minute scheduling changes is imperative.
