DescriptionGoals, Objectives, Importance to Conservation Camp Goonzhii (meaning wisdom and knowledge in Gwich’in) has been held in Arctic Village by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for 13 years. The three-day camp aims to expose students to both old and new forms of knowledge. This camp addresses Goal 9 of the Refuge: Refuge staff provides outreach information to distant audiences, individuals who enter the Refuge, and people in gateway communities, to enhance their understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of Refuge lands and resources.
Skills NeededExperience working or teaching in native communities, ability to work with all ages, and a flexible attitude toward last minute changes in agenda due to weather, subsistence needs, and other challenges.
