DescriptionThe Selawik National Wildlife Refuge is seeking 1-2 botanists to revisit our GLORIA site Remote Control Airplanes (Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments http://www.gloria.ac.at/) to examine and photograph plants on established plots and download temperature loggers. We are looking for people with good alpine plant identification skills, able to follow standard protocols (see web site for details), some computer skills and familiarity with backcountry camping. Crew members must be in good physical condition as they will be hiking up to five miles with a pack. Tentatively the work is scheduled for three weeks in early July but some flexibility can be accommodated. Transportation to and between sites will be by helicopter. The crew (2-3 people) will be camping in tents. Weather conditions can range from cool and windy to hot and buggy. The crew will be required to take several aircraft safety classes, bear safety and firearms training. Food and travel will be provided. "
Skills NeededBotanists needed. Please see above for details of required skills. Aircraft safety class (on-line), bear safety, and firearms training is required. Backcountry skills and hiking ability mandatory.
