Description | Goals: To connect people with nature, provide an educational and fun event for families to enjoy the outdoors, instill a better understanding of replica handbags dragonflies and wetlands and its role in biodiversity, and encourage appreciation of local nature preserves and parks.
Objectives: After completing a guided nature walk, attendees will be able to identify a minimum of two species of dragonflies and know how to collect and properly handle a dragonfly. Participants will become familiar with the role of dragonflies in the food web. They will become familiar on the proper use of field equipment such as hand lenses, guide books, and aerial nets. Participants will have spent at minimum, approximately one hour outside in nature and will become more familiar with the National Wildlife Refuge System. Additionally, youth and adults are exposed to possible career and volunteer opportunities. Importance to Conservation: Dragonflies play an important role as both predator and prey in aquatic and terrestrial systems, making them ideal subjects for introducing the concept of ecological relationships. Their dependence on wetlands and their position in the food chain make them good indicators of ecosystem health.
