Selawik National Wildlife Refuge Refuge: Spring Birding in Kotzebue and Selawik

Project NameSpring Birding in Kotzebue and Selawik
Project Number297
LocationKotzebue and Selawik
DatesMay dates TBA
Duration1 week
Number of Volunteers Needed1
DescriptionAssist in leading 4 spring bird outings for the public in Kotzebue, and possibly 2 outings for youth in Selawik village. The Kotzebue outings are jointly sponsored by NPS and FWS, and typically attract 5-20 www.perfectclones.co participants each. Each outing lasts approximately 2 hours. The volunteer does not need to be an expert birder; general familiar with Alaska birds is sufficient. Opportunities are available to offer other activities/presentations to the public/youth if volunteer desires. Friends will pay volunteer's travel costs to Kotzebue (inc meals). Selawik NWR has a bunkhouse in Kotzebue where he/she could stay. The refuge will pay the volunteer's airfare to Selawik. Lodging in Selawik would be roughly fine replica watches $100, which would be best if Friends could cover. Exact dates not yet determined, but sometime in the window of May 18-28. Don't hesitate to contact me by email if you have further questions.
Skills NeededFriends of Alaska's National Wildlife Refuges board is recruiting a volunteer for this event with knowledge of Alaska birds and with the skills to provide outreach on Alaska's amazing migratory birds, including helping with Spring Birding in Selawik, other events hosted by Friends, Migratory Bird Calendar fundraising and/or other outreach and educational activities. Must be able to participate on Friends board calls approximately every month on the first Tuesday at 5pm AK time or have regular access to email to coordinate with board and committees.
