DescriptionClub Mud is an annual shorebird education program led by Alaska Maritime NWR staff on the Mud Bay Spit in Homer every spring for children from Homer and those visiting Homer from other Kenai Peninsula communities, the Mat-Su IWC Replica Watches Valley, or Anchorage. It is a two-hour-long program with three stations: shorebird I.D., shorebird feeding and migration, and shorebird scoping. The program is only offered when the shorebirds are migrating through Kachemak Bay , roughly May 1- May 17 The Education Specialist and Education Assistant will cover two of the stations, but Alaska Maritime NWR is looking for a volunteer, or two, willing to staff one Club Mud station throughout this time period in May when programs are scheduled. Each Club Mud program requires a four-hour time commitment, several days a week, M-F from no earlier than 7:30 a.m. to no later than 6 p.m. depending on the tides and how many school groups sign up for the program. Training, uniform, and equipment will be provided.
Skills NeededA good attitude and ability to work with different aged children, willing to work in cold and inclement weather, not afraid of getting muddy, have some knowledge of shorebirds.
