DescriptionVolunteers and refuge/BLM staff hand pull seedlings and infestations of White Sweet Clover along the Haul Road (Dalton Highway). Weed whackers are used in some areas. We generally work 4 or 5 days, and travel to and from Fairbanks takes 1 day each way in Government vehicles. Food and lodging provided by the Refuge while we are on location. Travel to Fairbanks will be by carpooling in a government van from Anchorage. There will be no airline travel authorized by the refuge this year. We will have 2 rooms at the BLM Fire Service Barracks in Fairbanks at each end of the weed pull, so 2 males and 2 females works best.
Skills NeededAbility to be outdoors from 8-5, doing manual labor, in cold or wet or dusty and hot, buggy conditions.
Audience AgeAll ages
Materials NeededRefuges and BLM provide tools, gloves, equipment, and bug spray. Bring work clothes, head nets or bug jackets, layers of clothing to be prepared for temps 30-80, snow or rain, dust, mosquitos.
