DescriptionEach May Selawik Refuge teams up with NPS to celebrate the return of migratory birds to the Northwest Arctic, including hosting in-person birding tours around the Kotzebue loop road. We are looking for a volunteer who is good with birds and people to help lead these tours.
The person would be asked to: 1) Scout for birds ahead of time to help plan stop locations, 2) Help set up, use, and take down spotting scope at each stop, 3) Assist with bird ID, 4) Chat with visitors about birds, birding, bird ID
Skills NeededBird ID, people skills, ability to operate scope/tripod. Defensive driving (to be able to drive gov't vehicle) - not required but appreciated.
Materials NeededThe refuge will provide transportation around Kotzebue and lodging (with kitchen). Volunteer must provide own transportation to Kotzebue.
