DescriptionYukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge YCC program is hiring a crew of local high school students (approx 6 students) for six weeks to survey non-native and invasive plants (using the Alaska Exotic Plants Information Clearinghouse protocol) and map (using GIS) around a few of the villages associated with YFNWR along the Yukon River. The tentative dates for each location are: Ft. Yukon (July 5- July 23) Circle (July 25- Jul 30) Stevens Village (Aug 1- Aug 6) Beaver (Aug 8-Aug 13) The Refuge will provide volunteers with travel, field accommodations, and meals.
Skills NeededThey are looking for energetic volunteers to spend a week (or longer) to assist with supervising and chaperoning the high school students while they travel to the villages and conduct their field work. Knowledge of GIS and non-native plants and supervising a small group of teens is useful but not mandatory.
