Yukon Delta Refuge: Bethel Spring Birding Program

Project NameBethel Spring Birding Program
Project Number160
LocationBethel
DatesMid-May to Mid-June 2010
Duration2 1/2 to 3 weeks
Number of Volunteers Needed2 FILLED
DescriptionThe ideal situation would be if the volunteers could come to stay for 2.5 - 3 weeks, so that they would be here for three week-ends. We could then have them lead both week-end birding walks and week-day excursions as well. Any period including 3 consecutive week-ends from mid-May through mid-June would work (i.e., anywhere between the week-ends of 14-16 May through 18-20 June). The ideal 3 week-ends (most birds having returned and fewest bugs around) would be 22-24 May, 28-30 May, and 4-6 June, but if that period needs to be shifted replica watches back or forwards a bit, given their schedules, that would be fine. Volunteers will stay in Refuge bunkhouse and have use of refuge vehicles. Christine Mc Caffery will assist volunteer with the walks and give an orientation to Bethel and birding locales. Travel and food will be covered by Friends grant.
Skills NeededIntermediate birding skills; Knowledge of Alaska birds; Ability to lead bird walks for all age groups; Flexibility and enthusiasm; Ability to do Friends Outreach with packaged program. Ability to give other programs in community based on volunteer's interests and experiences.
