DescriptionAt the camp, village elders will share Athabascan traditional knowledge. Professional refuge staff and CATG/TCC biologists will share the results of their latest studies with cartier replica watches village youth and a professional botanist invited to the science camp will educate youth in proper plant identification, collection and preservation techniques and bring a local Arctic Village graduate student conducting oral history research at UAF to the science camp to share traditional knowledge on use of plants.

Education TopicsDiscussion will include modules about career development and recruitment, fish and wildlife biology, climate change, waterfowl harvest, hunting and gun safety, water quality and contaminants, tundra disturbances, wilderness experiences, preparation of harvested game, fishing methods, survival skills and wilderness preparation, animal trapping, edible and medicinal plant use, weather prediction, and local involvement by youth and elders in the refuge’s Comprehensive Conservation Plan development. In addition, participants will share oral history; identify historical sites; visit Native allotments and a nearby ancient caribou fence.
